A Martinez Returns!
A Martinez (Cruz, Santa Barbara) goes back to the future in "News From D Street," an episode of The Sci-Fi Channel's new original anthology series Welcome to Paradox.

Paradox is set in the world of Betaville, a domed city approximately 70 years into the future. "I play a private detective, or as it's known in his world, an Inquiry," says Martinez, who last was seen opposite another SB alum, Ally Walker (Andrea), as Nick 'Coop' Cooper on her NBC series Profiler. "(In Paradox) I get a divorce case. I start looking for this guy because his wife thinks that he's cheating. Then the layers of the guy's life peel back to reveal all kinds of crazy stuff.
"It turns out," Martinez continues, "that he's really on the run from the future, and in chasing him, I end up stumbling onto a very glorifying truth about my own life."
Martinez admits that the futuristic element of Paradox made working on the episode a real kick. "It gave me a chance to play a tough-guy-talking-out- of-the-side-of-my-mouth-type character," he says. "And the series has a nice little odd bend in that all of the cars in the town, every single vehicle, is a yellow Volkswagon Beetle. And everyone dresses a little too colorfully. It catches your imagination immediately, and that pays off big when you find out what is going on in the story."
According to a spokesperson for the Sci-Fi Channel, there's talk that Martinez' character may return next season.

Martinez says that there's a surprise twist in his episode of Paradox.
