Ex-L.A. Lawyer A Martinez is part Blackfoot Indian, but that's not why he jumped at a role in Grand Avenue (HBO, June 30), the Robert Redford-produced drama about three Native American families in contemporary California.  "The story touched me because it reminds me of the way my own mother's door was always open to people, whether they were relatives or not," explains the actor, a Californian himself.  "It's a character study of a community."  Fittingly, there was a sense of community among the largely Native American cast, including Irene Bedard (the voice of Disney's Pocahontas).   "It was as distinguished a cast as I've ever worked with.  There was a great bonding," says Martinez.  The busy star has just released a "California rock" album, Fragrance and Thorn, and will star in an NBC movie with Tiffani-Amber Thiessen.  With all that going on, how does Martinez manage to maintain his buff, soap-hunk build?  "I eat right and go to the gym," he explains, "but running around after three young kids really helps you keep in shape."
